Therapeutic effects of ultrasound arise from its mechanical, thermal, physical-chemical and neuroreflexive effects on the human organism.
The most important therapeutic effects of US are:
– analgesic effect (against pain),
– antiinflammatory (against inflammation),
– reduces spasm of muscles,
– increases local circulation, reduction of edemas and deposits of calcium in mucous membranes and other tissues,
– it acts reparatory (accelerates the healing of the tendon after injuries and sutures),
– enhances the extensibility, ie the stretchability of scar tissue because it has a deeper thermal effect on joint capsules, ligaments and tendons (so it is used – in contract ofjoints and as an introduction to stretching exercises, as well as at scars).
Indications for application of US:
– keloids and scars,
– dipitren’s contract,
– posttraumatic contracts of joints,
– injuries of tendons and ligaments,
– algodystrophic syndrome,
– exposing myositis,
– myofascial syndrome,
– Tendovaginitis and enthesitis (inflammation of the tendon and their attachment), bursitis (mucous membrane inflammation), periarthritis of the shoulder and others joints,
– heel thorn (calcar calcanei),
– cervical and lumbar syndrome,
– rheumatoid arthritis,
– ankylosing spondylitis (Behterev’s disease)
– herpes zoster,
– neuralgia,
– coccigodynia.
Contraindications for application of US:
– malignant tumors and precancerous conditions,
– acute and chronic infections,
– bleeding and tendency to bleed,
– acute thrombophlebitis and flebotrombosis,
– occlusive arterial diseases,
– hearty PEJSMEJKER,
– spina bifida,
– laminectomy,
– osteoporosis.
