Kinesio taping

Kinesio taping

Taping is a technique that is based on the natural healing process of the body. It was created in the seventies in Japan under the name KINESIO TAPING.

Taping follows the basic principles of kinesiology (motion science) and facilitates the free movement of the body. By supporting muscles and accompanying body movements, taping helps the body to heal itself.

In the therapy, a special tape is used, which for its characteristics (weight, thickness, and elasticity) is very similar to the skin itself. The medicine does not contain any pharmacological agents. The glue on it is hypoallergenic and the tape allows the skin to breathe maximally. It is water resistant and patients can freely shower while the tape is applied. It is wearied for 3-5 days and then completely removed from the skin. Due to all of these characteristics, tapes can be used indefinitely without any harmful consequences.

Taping is used to treat muscle, nerves and organs within physical therapy, but it can also be used to improve the results of athletes. The use in sport is always the most popular, so you can often see tennis players, bikers, swimmers with color stripes that help them quickly recovery between efforts and in repairing of the injuries. The use in sports is only part of the method because 75% of the application is in physical therapy and for patients with some diseases.

The main effect of the tape is that at the place where it is applied, it accelerates the flow of body fluids (lymph and blood), and the treated part improves nutrition, reduces irritation to the skin’s receptors, increases the local skin temperature. The tape works with each movement making small skin packs and a segment that is treated practically 24 hours under therapy.

Various tape application techniques can achieve the following effects:

  • Muscle support
  • Improved contraction of weakened muscles
  • Reducing muscle fatigue
  • Reducing excessive stretching and excessive muscle contraction
  • Reduces cramps and possible muscle injuries
  • Increase the volume of movement
  • Pain relief
  • Resolving blood and lymphatic dysfunction – improving circulation
  • Reduction of inflammation
  • Reducing hypersensitivity and pain of the skin and muscles
  • Reducing the irritation of the receptor for touch and pain
  • Correcting joint problems
  • Correction of lymphatic drainage problems
  • Correcting functional problems
  • Reducing scarring and preventing the formation of keloids

These are the approximate possibilities for the application of the tape. Each patient is accessed individually and the technique of the application is adapted to his problem. In our clinic, the tape is incorporated in the therapeutic protocol with other therapeutic procedures. Most often it is applied when patients do not come to therapy every day. Depending on the localization and the problem, it is possible simultaneous therapy with tape and other forms of physical therapy. The tape does not limit the movements but on the contrary supports it, so it is desirable to practice and implement the methods of kinesiotherapy while the tapes are applied.

Tracks can treat a very wide range of diseases, and if you are interested in solving your problem you can contact us for detailed information. The therapy can only be conducted by specially trained physiotherapists and doctors.
